My efficacy as a teacher, which is very important to me, is best evidenced in what I produce—students! The words students have gifted me over the years, in response to the time, energy, and life I've invested into this job, are what drive me to continue in this profession, to work hard to improve, and to truly care about what I do. Best and hardest job in the world.
But what about the return on investment? The fortune and glory? Behold...
This page is dedicated to my mother, Marina Lynch, my first and forever teacher.
Dear Mr. Lynch,
The night before school started, I was frantically searching Google for a guy named Andre Lynch. To be honest, I was very skeptical. My mom has been friends with Doug and Chase for over 20 years, so when I saw that the man I was waiting to be my teacher was taking a leave of absence, I was pretty crushed. I had considered switching to the other class, doubting that I would ever learn from a guy named Andre. But when I met you on the first days let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised. I knew the first minute I walked in that room I would be getting an amazing year of learning, and that your name is actually Andrew. Without you, my life would be dull, and I would not have a great start to my day. Without you, I would not know about the fleshy egg man, or that you can still produce great work from a not so great book (Chasing the Bright Side :). I learned that quality is more important than quantity or a due date. So this book is for my Mr. Keating. I hope you enjoy it, I know I did! I have my own copy since Dead Poets Society is my second favorite movie. So with that, thank you for all you have done to improve my life, Happy Holidays, and Carpe Diem!
Love, A. K. 😀
P.S. I've never had a teacher who I could relate to when it comes to 80s-moves.

Lynch,
Words cannot express my gratitude nor happiness that I experienced in your English class. You singlehandedly ignited the development of my ability to write on a whole new level, a skill which I dutifully went on to use in college applications and in Gillen's class. Although I wished that you would've taught CFE this year, I hope this book serves you well, additionally as a token of your growth from your first-ever year as a teacher.

I am very grateful we were all able to have such a fun time on this trip because of you. You definitely made this a trip I’ll never forget. Only sad you didn’t eat Ryan’s Kebab with us.

I am incredibly grateful to you and madame for making this trip possible. My favorite memory was when you fell and I couldn’t stop laughing (sorry).
-Mackenna H.
Dear Lynch,
Thank you so much for being there for me while I was sick (from the raw oysters). I will never forget what you told Johanna & I outside of the hotel on the last night. I will always value that conversation & I’m glad we all created amazing memories together.

Dear Mr. Lynch,
Thank you for chaperoning this trip! Spending a week with you was a blast. We are all forever grateful for the countless hours you and Madame put into making this trip possible for us. Fingers crossed I get you as my teacher for next year!
-Matias K.
Mr. Lynch,
You’re the best chaperone ever! Thank you for the inspirational speeches throughout the trip and all the effort you put into making sure we all had an amazing time. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed this trip as much if you didn’t come along.
-Trinity G.
Dear Mr. Lynch,
Thank you for being a wonderful chaperone! I had a wonderful time on the trip despite the attempted pickpocketing & puking & punching (hope the English teacher sees this alliteration). What are we going to do w/ you?
-Jacob
I will always be upset you didn’t get pickpocketed. Just joking 😀. Could not have asked for a better chaperone on this trip. Bag those fries!
-Matt B.
Dear Mr. Lynch,
I never had you as a teacher, but after spending a week with you, I felt like I’ve known you forever. You were the best chaperone. Enough with the friggin packets yo just go bag the fries.
-Sam S.
Dear Mr. Lynch,
I’m so grateful for all of the work you and Madame put into this trip and that I got to form a bond with you. I miss talking to you and Madame when you came for bed check, even though you were an hour late one night. One of my fav moments was when you told the story about singing being illegal in the US just to stop Servane and to let us nap. The trip wouldn’t have been as fun without you. Thank you for everything!
-Bella H.
Dear Monsieur Lynch,
Thank you so much for being such a great chaperone! I’ve had so much fun getting to know you and you’re really funny. Thanks for riding the pirate ship with me and giving me your cheesecake. Servane = Sergone

Dear Mr. Lynch,
I’m so thankful that you were our chaperone for this amazing trip! I miss when you and Madame would come in and chat with us before bed check. Besides that one night when you came an hour late lol. Also thank god you came up with that story to get Servane to stop singing. You really made the trip!

Dear Mr. Lynch,
I wanted to give you something to express my gratitude for such a lovely year. I am so thankful that I've had you as my teacher. This class was truly one I'll never forget.
As you know, from my many frantic classroom comments over the course of the year (lol), I was struggling with my mental health a lot this year. Somehow, even on days where there was nothing else to look forward to, your class always brightened my day. You're an incredibly special teacher. Thank you for everything.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr. Lynch,
You truly are one one of my favorite teachers ever! I also apologize if I've ever made you feel otherwise because I just don't talk a lot! You are a great teacher and have always been super kind! You taught us about great literary works and talented authors all throughout the year! It really got me more interested in reading and different works. I love English, and you inspired me to explore more with genres. You taught us all that it was okay to be yourself and just to have a good time! Thank you so much! And good luck at whatever comes next in your journey!

Dear Mr. Lynch,
I can't fit all of my gratitude into this tiny card, but I'm going to try. First of all, thank you for encouraging my creativity this year, and actually making class interesting & fun. I always looked forward to 9th period because of you (and Sophie + Michael). Thank you for making my work stronger and encouraging me to step out of my writing shell a bit (+ also teaching me how to shorten my work). Also—I made it into the ACLU program!!! Thanks for all you did with that ☺. That smiley face looks a little creepy but it's not supposed to be... anyhow, as a first year teacher (full year teacher), (continued bc I ran out of space) you absolutely killed it. Whoever gets you as a teacher next year is going to be incredibly lucky. Your enthusiasm is unmatched, and I'm REALLY going to miss your class next year! Thank you for EVERYTHING.
All the best & more,
Ella O.

Hi! I made you a dog with a dino hat. I would have made little wings but I have to study for finals. So, it is but a dinodog. Anyway, thank you so much for such a nice year. I think you're probably the best teacher I've ever had. You teach in a way that’s comprehensible, and you also care a lot for your students. You manage to be really funny on top of that, so it would make sense why no one wants you to leave. I don’t know how you manage to be so approachable, but its really impressive. I hope you have fun wherever you end up working, and I hope I see you again someday. One request is that you don’t forget me. That’s probably a hard ask considering you will meet lots of new people, on top of those you already know, but I figured I might as well as ask.
Wishing you the best,

Dear Mr. Lynch,
First, tell Joe Lynch his movies are great, I especially liked Mayhem. Second, tell Michael I thank him for his service. (I saved the best for last). Mr. Lynch as the end of the year comes around, I think of you less as my teacher, and more like my friend. I am so glad you were my teacher because I don’t know how I would have made it through this year. You have given me a new appreciation for English class and writing in general. You say how you love my projects…
Well, I never would have been able to do it without you. I was told if you can't look your teacher in the eyes by the end of the year and tell them “I respect you,” that teacher has failed you. The point of all this was to tell you I would catch a grenade for you. A Lynch may be an evil creature, but that name will always spark joy from me. Hope we meet again.
Your favorite Student, Gabe.
Dear Mr. Lynch,
Thank you so much for such an amazing year. I really wish that you would have stayed and I didn’t have to say goodbye to my favorite teacher. I hope you go on to find a job you really love and enjoy. But I do hope you will always remember us fellas at room 234 :)

Dear Mr. Lynch,
You were an all year and awesome teacher were one of of kind.
You were always interactive, funny, goofy, but on top of that you still got the point of the lesson across along with serious life lessons and thoughts. I wish you the best of luck on wherever your career takes you and I know you will thrive in whatever you do! Have a good summer, you changed my view on English forever.

JUST MY CHEESY WAY OF SAYING "THANK YOU." →for being such a great teacher!!
Thank you Mr. Lynch for all the amazing teaching you've done this year. I can genuinely tell how passionate you are about teaching and English, and it definitely reflects everyday when you're teaching our class. This definitely was one of the most interesting and fun classes I've had this year, and I definitely was able to grow and develop as a reader and a writer this year. Mainly due to the great skills and lessons you've taught us. I'll definitely miss your class and all the laughs we all had.
Thank you,
Mohemeen A.
Mr. Lynch!!!
Words can not describe how much I loved this class. I'm really sad that you're leaving, but I wish

Dear Mr. Lynch,
Hi! I want to start out by saying that this card reminded me of you because I was holding it upside-down and was very confused why it wasn't opening. I liked how even though it was upside down and backwards, it was still pretty (I'm cliche I know). This year was crazy and weird and backwards, but you made it so much better. You made learning fun and it was the perfect way to start out every morning. You are not only my favorite teacher, but the best teacher I've ever had. Once when I was remote for a day, my mom was also home for a doctor’s appointment. She was listening while you taught the lesson and enjoyed it so much that she sat next to me at the table so she could follow along. She said something like, "You can tell he's really into it and is enjoying this, it's compelling. Seems like a great teacher!" She's right. You're a really great teacher. Thank you so much for an amazing year, and I really hope they move you to the high school next year! (I tried my best not to get too mushy)
Sorry for the grammar mistakes! 🙂
Warmest Regards,

Dear Mr. Lynch,
I am going to miss you so much. For the past two years that I had you, I admired your joyous personality. You have been a fun and amazing teacher and I wanted to thank you for just being you but also quite literally getting me into college (writing my letter of rec). Thank you for always checking in on me! Everytime you did it meant so much to me that I can't even describe. Your deep passion for the subject, your patience, and your encouragement changed my perspective on the subject overall. I'm truly grateful for your support and guidance.

You are my favorite teacher. I wrote this letter to thank you for your hard work.

You are my favorite teacher because you are funny. Even though some of the stories we read are boring, you make them fun. You are entertaining and never boring. You make the topics fun. You are hilarious.
You introduced the class to new topics and games like gimkit. I liked some of the books that we read like Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies. You make everything fun when things are boring. And I have you 1st period: I be tired but you are fun.

Dear Mr. Lynch,
You are my favorite teacher because you make the school year fun. You find a way to make everything fun even if it may just be a boring story. One of my favorite things about you is how you are always engaged with the class and help when students may be down. You are part of the reason I love English and feel more comfortable writing compared to me being nervous from the start of the year. Thank you for everything.

At first when I was starting 11th, I was scared of the IB classes. When I started your class you made me feel better about it. All the work I have completed in your class was not hard or challenging. I enjoyed them. You made class enjoyable and so much fun. Especially when you yell random things lol. Overall, you’re an amazing teacher and you should feel like you made an impact on us. There is a difference between teachers and teachers. Thank you for all you have done. 🙂

Dear Mr. Lynch
Thank you for a great year. I have always loved English but your class was probably the best I’ve taken in high school so far. My writing has improved over this year and I learned so much from you. IB English was very different from my previous English classes but I loved how we worked with both literary and non-literary texts and our assignments expanded my skills greatly. You always made class a very fun and comforting environment which I really appreciated. Thank you for always supporting and pushing us with our work. I hope you have a great summer and that I get to learn from you again.
Sincerely,
Kayla W.
Dear Mr. Lynch,
I just wanted to write you a sincere thank you for the last two years.
Thank you for your compassion and empathy, but also for pushing me as a student and person. In all honesty rewriting my college essay the day before it was due was one of the scariest things I've done. That might be an overexaggeration, or it may just mean I'm an extremely fortunate person, but person, but I really put all I had (at the time) into that original essay. I didn't have the strength to admit that might not have been enough, though.
So, speaking with you about it that day was a conversation that will always mean more than you know. Somehow you reassured me that it was enough, yet you didn't close me off from the more risky option of rewriting it; whereas most of my past teachers would have pushed me towards the safer option of sticking with what I had, I think. You told me that if I thought I had more to give then there was no reason not to try. Though it could have been a rushed disaster, you had faith in me. It ended up being one of the most honest things I'd written, and consequently it was one of the best. My mom also read it, and we had a very real, productive conversation as a result. That essay changed a lot for me... and I'm pretty certain it was a key factor in my earning acceptance to quite literally all of my dream schools.
So, thank you for always being a teacher who pushes his students and has faith in them. Thank you for not letting me take the easier way out.
You’re an amazing teacher, and though I’m sure you’ll have many careers after this one, I hope you know how much of an impact you’ve had on your students.
Sincerely,
Reagan H.
P.S. - Never stop yapping. You’re the only person I’ve ever met who yaps as much as I do. It’s both impressive and wildly entertaining.

Dear Mr. Lynch,
Wow I hope you prepare yourself before reading this letter because there will probably be a lot of grammatical errors haha Anyways, I just wanted to thank you for the past couple of months. I can’t even imagine how hard it has been to do your job ever since Corona struck.. At the end of the year, I was planning on making all of my teachers desserts and writing them all letters. Unfortunately, I can not give any of you gifts because of the virus, but I can at least write you a letter:)
I just wanted to write a letter for you so that you could understand how much appreciate you. In the beginning of the year, I was so scared coming into high school because I had no idea what to expect. I took the dumb choice to also take two english classes so I could be in honors the following years of high school. I had absolutely no idea how this was going to turn out, and I was nervous I was going to stress myself out. I had Mrs.(I don’t remember her name omg that’s so bad) the first half of the year and I did well but her class still stressed me out. It wasn’t that the work was difficult, it’s just I felt like she didn’t teach on a personal level, she just taught us the basic information we needed to know. I mean that is her job, but I believe there is so much more to an education then that. Then she left and you came along, and I was so excited to have you as a teacher. When she told us in the beginning of the year that we were gonna get a new teacher I was petrified. I had no idea this new teacher’s way of teaching. Every teacher has their own style of educating, and I had no idea how this new teacher was planning on educating us. But when you came along with your chaotic energy and optimistic attitude, my stress was relieved. I never participated in her class before you came along. I was so nervous everyday to even come into her class because I didn’t know any of the other students, like none. But after I spent one x-time talking to you it made me feel so much better about coming to class everyday.
Your class distressed me so much throughout the year, and I just want to thank you so much for that. It’s not that the work you gave us was easy, you just look at education in a different way than most teachers do. You don’t see it as “memorize this and this and you will be set for life”. It’s more a “look at this through this perspective and try to understand why they do this”. You try and make us really think about what was happening and why it was happening. You made us look at literature in ways I have never looked at it before. I really enjoyed every single one of your units and answering every question. You really make me enjoy your class all year round and I am so lucky you gave me such an amazing 9th grade English class.
I just really want to thank you for literally just being you. You have educated me this year in a way I have never been taught. You tried to connect with us with the questions you asked, and you made us learn more about ourselves from hunger games questions. Like how do you even do that haha. But I would spend 15 minutes on one question sometimes because I wanted to answer it in the best way I knew how. You made me want to work harder and do better for myself. You helped me learn so much about myself, other teachers, and education in general this year. I hope you keep teaching the way you do, you have inspired me in so many ways and I know you will do that to every other student you teach.
I don’t want to keep rambling on, but by the end of this letter I really hope you understand how much I appreciate you and your class. I can’t even imagine how hard it has been the past couple of months doing your job. My mom and both my aunts are teachers, and they are really struggling with it too. They said there were times where they worked a whole day to make assignments and only 4 or 5 of the students would finish it. I hope you know I have always been there, everyday looking for what assignments have been posted. I have listened and watched all your videos that have been posted and I have learned so much the past couple of months.. But I hope you know you succeeded at your job this year. You have taught me so much and prepared me for my future years of high school. Thank you so much, I am forever grateful! I hope you have a great summer, and I really hope we open in September so I can drop in and say hi:)
P.S I’m not even kidding. I will cry if you are not a teacher next year at Comsewogue. But like you gotta make that bank so do what you gotta do. I just hope you know we will miss you, but I know you will succeed greatly whenever you go.:)
